Wealth of Sharing

Knowledge is precious. Sometimes it’s not easy to acquire one. Quite often it’s also expensive financially, physically, mentally and emotionally. It’s not rare that knowledge is so painful to get that we won’t forget about it forever. Therefore, people are reluctant to share their knowledge, skills or secret of success with others.

It takes days to find a solution for a computer problem and to fix it, and yet it takes only minutes for a friend to get the solution from you when he faces the same problem. It’s just not fair.

Sharing information with others also reduces our competitive edge. Hence, we have to keep some of the most important ones to sustain our superiority, right?
Wrong.

Knowledge is power, but only when people know how, where and when to use it. We need to acquire knowledge on how to use knowledge!

There are people who spent a considerable amount of resources to acquire the knowledge but have wasted it. On the other extreme, there are people who just observed other people’s work, took short course or asked few questions, and used the knowledge at its maximum to produce million dollars of business. There are of course people in between.

The power of knowledge is also contextual. It produces different effect in different era and in different people. Some knowledge becomes obsolete very quickly, while others maybe valid for decades before being replaced by new ones.

There are some interesting possibilities by sharing knowledge, skills, or even what we thought recipe of success, with others.

Knowledge is just like wealth. The money in our account in banks or in other investments may not be our real wealth. We may not be able to enjoy it. For sure we won’t bring them when we die. The real wealth that we have is the money (and knowledge) that we spent for helping others.

When we share we try our best to communicate and transfer the knowledge, and thus we learnt deeper. We may even find new more things or meanings along the way.

Knowing that there’s no more secret left, one shall acquire new knowledge, new secret recipes. It makes others chasing moving shadows. It makes the knowledge we shared becomes obsolete. The person will be part of a locomotive for the industry to advance to the next level.

Since the way people apply the knowledge may differ considerably, there’ll be enrichment of the knowledge as well.

Keeping and hiding knowledge will only make it dusty and rusty; oxidized by selfishness, ignorance, and arrogance.
