It was new year morning, and my daughter asked me to drop her off at Kukusan, one of the most popular boarding house places at Depok, where the University of Indonesia campus is located.
New year morning and she said she'd study with her friends for an exam the following day! I hope she's not kidding me...
There I was with camera shooting here and there, capturing objects that attracted my attention.
The campus was deserted by its main inhabitant. There were only few visitors who wanted to kill their times by fishing in a artificial lake, with a sea of garbage on its surface...
UI is one of the oldest and most respected universities in Indonesia. It was established in February 1950 as a multi campus university with faculties in Jakarta (Medicine, Law, and Letters), Bogor (Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine), Bandung (Engineering, Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Surabaya (Medicine and Dentistry), and Makassar (Economics).
In 1954, the Surabaya campus in East Java became Airlangga University; the Ujung Pandang campus in Sulawesi became Hasanuddin University in 1955; in 1959 the Bandung campus in West Java became Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB or Bandung Institute of Technology); the School for Physical Education Bandung, became part of Padjajaran University in 1960.
In 1964, the Bogor campus became Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB or Bogor Agricultural University) and the Faculty of Education (FKIP) at Jakarta, became IKIP Jakarta.
Apart from producing graduates who are now becoming important figures in several government posts, UI shall also be able to produce more top quality researchers who are well connected with the business world for the advancement of the country's economy.
I was wondering how many patents had been registered by UI's people, and how many of them had been commercialized. No Noble winners yet for sure. So, UI's boys and girls, wake up!
