A few months back, I got an e-mail from an unknown person, asking for information about Soesman family. The only person I know from TV shows is only Abadi Soesman, the musician. I don't know however whether he's part of the family. I once tried to Google it, but I found little information about it, and then I forgot to reply the e-mail, until today.
After thinking it over, I decided to publish the e-mail and then reply the e-mail afterwards, with the hope that it may reach a person who knows about the family.
Here's the e-mail:
Hello Sir
I read that you have the name SOESMAN - by aroengbinang project.
My name is Margarethe Soesman, born in Madioen 1939. My great great grand father was Francois (Frans) Joseph Aleaxander. Bogor used to be named Buitenzorg. My great grandfather was Francois J.H. from Bandung.
I am trying to reconstruct my family in Indonesia. I have a picture of the abovenamed grandfather and I believe he was one of the founders of the Java Bank (now Bank of Indonesia). There was a place in Bandoeng that belonged to the familie at that time.
Could you tell me more about what you have found with the name Soesman.
I have lived in the US 50 years now and yet I will always love Indie or Indonesia as it is called today. I still make many Indonesian dishes, like gado-gado, sambal, atjar, nasi goreng, bamie.
I will truly appreciate it, when you can answer my e-mail.
Slamat djalan
Thank you
sincerely,
Margret
Any help, anybody?
Update:
I got a reply from Margret saying thank you for the posting, suggested some corrections on the e-mail, and added below information:
"I have since found out from a different source that FJH Soesman owned land that was part of the Braga. He lived in Bandung on the Dago weg and had build a place there.
He loved horses and he had several. Also loved construction and he had his own Import/Export business on the Braga across from the Javasche Bank."
