The museum with a building area of 6,500 m² can be accessed from the North through Golden Flower Garden (now Taman Legenda Keong Emas) or from East through Freshwater Aquarium Park.
The outer form of the Asmat Museum mimics Rumah Kariwari, the worship house of Tobati-Enggros tribe, which is a native inhabitant edge of Lake Sentani, Papua, but with a modern interior.
There are three main buildings of permanent showrooms and two connecting buildings at the Asmat Museum in the shape of octagonal. The roof uses a 25 m high conical leaf lid. Typical decorative Asmat, with red, white, and black can be found in various parts of the building.
The Asmat cultural objects are arranged by theme. The first building themed Humans and the Environment, showing off a variety of custom clothing and jewelry, dioramas, boat vehicles of ancestral spirits (wuramon), ancestral statue (mbis pole), and various ornaments symbolizing life phenomenon.
The second building is themed Humans and Cultures that showcase sago making equipment, hunting equipment, Asmat traditional weapons, cultural objects and ceremonies, tifa, fu (Bamboo flute instrument), and si (stone axe).
The third building themed Human and Creative Results, showcasing the creative work of Asmat contemporary art developed based on traditional patterns of the Asmat tribe.
Asmat Museum building is also used for other activities, such as the Asmat Creative Dance Competition and Coloring Competition of Asmat Variety Images.
