Jakarta Menteng Park is a rectangular, almost a cube, with an area of more than 2 ha, built in 2007 in the former Persija Football Field. Persija football field was then moved to Lebakbulus Stadium. Later on Persija did not use it because the capacity was not able to accommodate the spectators.
One of additional public facilities installed in this park on the orders of Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo before becoming president was a free high-speed wifi network. As he previously also installed the free wi-fi in Taman Suropati and Taman Situ Lembang.
Nameplate of Taman Menteng is located on the road side of Jl HOS Cokroaminoto. This sign was not available in my previous visit. It's beautiful. Most parks, not just in Jakarta, are already using this kind of landmark that does look elegant and durable for outdoor area installations.
The paving blocks on the pedestrian track were also wide and neat. Persija's future home is at BMW Park Stadium, but unfortunately until some time ago the construction was still stumbled over land ownership disputes, although Joko Widodo when he was still the Governor of DKI has reportedly budgeted 1.2 trillion to build the huge stadium.
The pedestrian trek inside Jakarta Menteng Park, in the form of mosaic patterns, was already in need of rejuvenation. The mosaic that formerly should look quite pretty it's almost lost its charm. It is understandable because every day they are exposed to direct sunlight and rainfalls, and passed by people's feet.
The inside of greenhouses were empty as maybe there was no exhibition or no permanent exhibition was shown. Actually there were quite a lot of workers who were in charge of caring the city park. But people's quantity is not always directly proportional to the quality of work. Menteng Stadium was handed over directly by President Soekarno to Persija in 1960, and with the passage of time has spawned several legendary players such as Djamiat Kaldar, Abdul Kadir, Iswadi Idris, Anjas Asmara, and Ronny Pattinasarani. Inscriptions of the history should already be made in Taman Menteng.
The last condition on the main part of Menteng Park extends from North to South end on the East side. The impression of the elegant lines I saw moments after the inauguration was now replaced with boxes for volleyball, futsal, basketball and maybe badminton. I prefer the original one. They were more beautiful.
The rigid and unfriendly iron chairs are better to be replaced by Jokowi's wooden chairs which are much more elegant than cast iron. The Jokowi's chair was already mounted at many points in Taman Suropati, which has made the park looked much more friendly and seemed down to earth.
A view on children's playground at Menteng Park that hopefully the condition is better nowadays. While still standing, Menteng Stadium could accommodate 10,000 spectators. The stadium, founded in 1921, was designed by F.J. Kubatz and P.A.J. Moojen, and given the name of Voetbalbond Indische Omstreken Sport (Viosveld).
In general I saw Taman Menteng's condition at that time was deteriorating. Improvement works need to be carried out to the trek's ceramics and to the main areas, as well to refresh the park's arrangement and to replace the old looking seats. The laying of artistic statues may also need to be considered. Likewise, the inscription that tells the story of Taman Menteng needs to be installed.
